About Our Geelong Private Computer Lessons
Do I need to know anything about computers to start?
Not at all. Many students come to their first lesson knowing almost nothing — and that’s completely fine. We start from wherever you are, no matter how basic. You don’t need to have previous experience or knowledge.
How long does each lesson go for?
Lessons are one hour. Clients have mentioned, quite a few times, that one hour is their limit to learning new things.
Do I have to book a set number of lessons?
No. You book one lesson at a time. Some people only need one or two sessions to sort out a specific problem. Others like to learn steadily over a few months. There’s no package to buy and nothing to lock you in.
What will we actually do in a lesson?
We work on real things you need to do — not made-up exercises. If you want to learn how to send photos by email, we do that. If you want to understand your files and folders, we do that. Every lesson is built around what you actually want to learn.
Will I have to do anything embarrassing in front of you?
Absolutely not. There are no tests, no right or wrong answers, and no reason to feel embarrassed. I’ve been doing this for over 10 years — nothing is too basic to ask.
What if I forget everything after the lesson?
That’s completely normal — it happens to everyone. We can go over anything again in the next session without any judgement. Most students find things start to click after the second or third time, especially if they have a little practice in between – although you do need to have more lessons if you are happy with the ones you have had.

What I can help with
What topics can you teach?
I teach Windows desktop (everyday PC use), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), WordPress websites, and Chromebooks. If you’re not sure which one you need, just describe what you’re struggling with and we’ll figure it out together.
My computer is doing something strange — can you help?
Often yes. If something isn’t working the way it should, I’ll take a look. If it turns out to be a hardware problem that needs specialist repair, I’ll be upfront with you and point you in the right direction.
I’ve just got a new computer and have no idea where to start — can you help?
Absolutely. Setting up a new computer and getting it working the way you want is a common thing I have helped people with. We can start from the very beginning.
Can you help me move my files from my old computer to my new one?
Yes. Moving photos, documents and other files between computers is something I help with regularly. We’ll make sure nothing gets left behind or lost.
I think I might have a virus or I’ve been scammed online — what should I do?
Don’t panic. Call me and we’ll take a look at what’s going on. I can help check your computer and walk you through how to stay safer online going forward. Knowing how to spot scams is something we cover in lessons too.
Can you help me with my email?
Yes — setting up email accounts, sending and receiving messages, attaching photos, organising your inbox — all of it. Whether you use Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail or something else, I can help.
I want to learn but I’m a very slow learner — is that okay?
More than okay. Slow and steady is absolutely fine. I’ve never had a student who couldn’t learn — only students who needed more time, more patience, or a different way of explaining things. That’s what I’m here for.
