Terms and Conditions

These terms and conditions explain how my tutoring service works and what you can expect when you book a lesson with me. I’ve written them in plain English so they’re easy to understand. By booking a lesson, you agree to these terms.

About this service

I, Serge M Botans, provide private one-on-one computer tutoring services to clients across Geelong and the surrounding region, operating under the name Geelong Computer Lessons (GCL). My ABN is 16-549-120-373.

I am an independent sole trader, not a company or agency. All lessons are delivered personally by me.

Bookings

Lessons are booked by phone, email or through the contact form on this website. A booking is confirmed when I have responded to your enquiry and we have agreed on a date, time and location.


There is no minimum number of lessons. You can book one lesson at a time with no obligation to continue.

I reserve the right to decline a booking at my discretion, for example if the location is outside my service area or if the request is for services I do not offer.

Pricing and payment

The standard rate is $50 per hour. Session lengths and rates are:

  • One hour — $50.
  • A travel fee of $10 or $15 may apply depending on your location. I will always confirm the travel fee before your first lesson — there are no surprise charges.
  • Payment is due at the end of each lesson by cash or bank transfer. I do not accept credit or debit cards at this time.

If payment is not received on the day, I will follow up by email or phone. Continued non-payment may result in future bookings being declined.

Cancellations and rescheduling

  • I understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, please let me know as soon as possible.
  • I ask for at least 24 hours notice where possible. However, because unexpected things happen, I can accept a cancellation on the day of the appointment prior to 12 midday as long as I am notified by SMS.
  • If I need to cancel or reschedule a lesson for any reason, I will contact you as early as possible and no cancellation fee will apply to you.
  • Generally speaking, there will not be a cancellation fee.

What I will and won’t do

  • I will do my best to help you learn what you need to know in a clear, patient and practical way. I will treat you with respect at all times and maintain your privacy.
  • I will not access your personal files, emails, accounts or passwords without your explicit permission. I will not store, share or make use of any personal information I come across during a lesson.
  • I am a computer tutor, not a technician. While I can sometimes help with common software issues and general computer problems, I do not provide hardware repair services. If a problem is beyond what I can help with, I will tell you honestly and point you in the right direction.
  • I cannot guarantee specific learning outcomes. How quickly you learn depends on many factors including your prior experience, the time you spend practising between lessons, and the complexity of what you want to learn. I will always do my best to make lessons as effective as possible.

Your responsibilities

  • Please make sure your computer is switched on and reasonably accessible before I arrive. If there is something specific you want to work on, it helps to have it ready or written down — but this is not essential.
  • Please treat me with courtesy and respect during lessons. I reserve the right to end a lesson early and charge for the full session time if a client is abusive or behaves inappropriately.
  • Please provide accurate information when booking, including your correct address and a working phone number.

Liability

  • I take care when working with your computer and your data. However, I recommend that you back up your important files before any lesson involving significant changes to your computer’s settings or software.
  • I am not liable for any data loss, software issues or hardware problems that occur during or after a lesson, except where caused by my own negligence.

Intellectual property

Any printed notes, handouts or written materials I provide during a lesson are for your personal use only. They may not be reproduced, shared or sold without my permission.

Governing law

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. Any disputes will be handled under Victorian law.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of my services after any changes means you accept the updated terms.
