Private computer lessons may well cost more, BUT they offer undeniable advantages well worth their cost.

Why private lessons make all the difference

Learning on your own is frustrating. Learning in a class means keeping up with everyone else. But learning one-on-one, in your own home, on your own computer — that’s when things actually click.

You learn at your own speed — not someone else’s

In a group class, the teacher has to keep moving. If you don’t understand something, tough — the lesson moves on. With private lessons, we stop for as long as you need. We go back over things. We take a different approach if the first one doesn’t work. There’s no pressure, no embarrassment, and no keeping up with the person next to you. It’s just you and me, working through things together until they make sense.

You learn on your own computer — not a classroom machine

This is one of the biggest advantages of private lessons and most people don’t think about it until they’ve had a bad experience elsewhere. In a class, you learn on a computer that looks and behaves differently to yours. You get home and nothing looks the same. With a private lesson, we sit at your computer — your desktop, your setup, your files — so everything you learn you can do again immediately, on your own, without having to figure out where things are on an unfamiliar machine.

You choose exactly what you learn

A group class follows a fixed program. You might spend an hour on something you already know, then miss the one thing you actually needed. Private lessons are completely different. You tell me what’s been frustrating you, what you need to be able to do, or what you’ve been putting off for months — and that’s what we work on. No wasted time, no irrelevant exercises. Just the things that matter to you.

You can ask the same question as many times as you need

This sounds small but it’s enormous. In a group setting, asking the same question twice feels uncomfortable. People worry about holding everyone up or looking foolish. In a private lesson, there’s no such thing as asking too many times. If something isn’t sticking, we find a different way to explain it. We go as many rounds as it takes. No one else is waiting, no one else is watching, and there’s nothing to feel embarrassed about.

You learn in a place where you’re already comfortable

Being in your own home matters more than people realise. You’re relaxed. You’re not travelling somewhere unfamiliar or sitting in a classroom that makes you feel like a student again. You’re in your kitchen, your lounge, your office — wherever you normally sit with your computer. That comfort makes a real difference to how quickly you learn and how much you remember afterwards.

You get a teacher who focuses entirely on you

In a class of ten people, you get a fraction of the teacher’s attention. In a private lesson, every minute is yours. I’m watching what you’re doing, listening to how you describe what’s confusing you, and adjusting the lesson in real time based on how you’re going. There’s no standard lesson plan — there’s only what’s working for you, right now, today.

You remember more because you practise as you go

Research consistently shows that people learn practical skills faster when they do them rather than watch them. In a private lesson, you’re the one doing the typing and the clicking — I guide you through it, but your hands are on the keyboard. That means by the end of the lesson, you’ve already practised what you’ve learned. You’re not just watching a demonstration and hoping you’ll remember it later.

Private lessons are more affordable than most people think

Many people assume private tuition is expensive and out of reach. In reality, one well-targeted private lesson often achieves more than a full day of group training — because every minute is spent on exactly what you need. There’s no travel cost, no time wasted on things you already know, and no need to keep booking more lessons to cover what didn’t sink in the first time. When you add it up, private lessons are often better value.
